As in many European countries, August 2025 in Portugal has been abnormally hot and has brought numerous forest fires to the country. The largest of them is raging in the Aguiar da Beira region. The fire has already affected more than 96,000 hectares of territory. The fire has merged with fires in Satana (Viseu district) and Trancoso (Guarda district) in the last 24 hours and has spread to eight other municipalities. In total, 11 municipalities are burning in Portugal, the last of which is Vila Nova de Foz Côa. Amid the raging forest fires, the second fire tornado in a week was caught on video. Speaking about the consequences of the fire, a spokesman for the fire brigade said that “there is already confirmation that some residential buildings have been destroyed,” although he admitted that “there is still no overall picture” of the damage. A significant number of operational activities are currently underway, with 46 fires being monitored, involving 1,060 personnel, 329 vehicles and nine aircraft.
